San Diego Padres Notes, Quotes 2008-04-25
--RHP Chris Young, who had struggled with his command in his two most recent starts, retired the first 10 hitters he faced and had given up only one hit when Giants 3B Rich Aurilia homered with one out in the seventh to give the Giants a 1-0 win Thursday night. "That's the best I've felt and the best I've pitched this year," said Young, who had 10 strikeouts for the first time this season.

--RHP Clay Hensley was advanced to Class AAA Portland on Thursday after making one rehab appearance for Class A Lake Elsinore. Hensley had shoulder surgery last September to repair a tear in his labrum.

--C Michael Barrett will be out at least another two weeks with the right elbow strain he suffered on April 8. An exam of the elbow Wednesday showed improvement, but not at the speed the Padres had expected.

--Thursday night marked the eighth time this season that at least one team has been scoreless through the first six innings of a Padres game. And it was the third time that both teams were scoreless going into the seventh. The Padres have scored in only 43 of the 220 innings they have hit in this season. That is 19.5 percent -- or an average of 1.75 innings per nine innings. The Padres are hitting .230 at Petco Park and averaging 2.38 runs per nine innings at home.

--CF Jim Edmonds is 1-for-27 in his last eight games with eight strikeouts. He went 0-for-4 Thursday, leaving his average at .177.

--2B Tadahito Iguchi is 4-for-41 since April 11. The slump has knocked his average down to .213.

--RHP Greg Maddux, 42, was used as a pinch runner Thursday night.

BY THE NUMBERS: 13 -- Number of scoreless innings by RHP Justin Germano to start the season before the successive streak was snapped last Wednesday.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's pretty special ... but I don't see myself telling stories bout it in 10 or 20 years. No one (in Austrailia) knows who Randy Johnson is." -- Justin Huber to the team's official Web site after Huber's three-run homer off Johnson in a five-run sixth inning on Sunday.
