SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Padres agreed to terms on a minor league contact with outfielder Emil Brown on Tuesday and invited him to spring training.
The 34-year-old Brown returns to the Padres after having appeared in 13 games for San Diego in 2001. The outfielder played in 117 games for the Oakland Athletics in 2008, hitting .244 with 14 doubles, 13 home runs, 59 RBIs and 48 runs scored.Originally signed by Oakland as a sixth-round selection in the 1994 draft, Brown has hit .258 with 112 doubles, 59 home runs, 326 RBIs and 296 runs scored in 736 games over parts of eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1997-2001), Padres (2001), Kansas City Royals (2005-07) and Athletics (2008).
