The Padres will keep Jake Peavy and Chris Young, the right-handed aces of their staff, on four days' rest, meaning there will be some shuffling at the back end of the rotation.
With the Padres having Tuesday off between the first and second games of their series in New York, Peavy will start Thursday's game against the Mets with Young will start Friday's opener of a four-game series in Philadelphia. But the No. 5 starter is not being skipped. Shawn Hill is scheduled to start Saturday's game instead of Walter Silva.
"I want to keep Peavy and Chris on regular days. They're both throwing well," said Padres manager Bud Black.
However, it should be noted that Peavy has a lower ERA (2.71) with an extra day's rest than normal rest (3.64).
