Peavy had gone 1,284 1/3 innings before allowing a slam. Among active pitchers who have yet to give up a grand slam, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, only Houston's Brian Moehler has a longer streak (1,360 innings).
"One pitch, that's been a recurring theme of mine," said Peavy, whose ERA shot up to 5.13 by allowing six earned runs in a game for the first time since the Oct. 1, 2007, wild-card playoff game in Colorado.
"It was that way in my first start (a two-run single by the Dodgers' James Loney) and on that pitch to (the Mets' Carlos) Delgado in my last start (a two-run homer)."
"I can't make a pitch like that with the pitcher on deck. I'm going to get better. I'm not that far off."
GIANTS 8, PADRES 3: Edgar Renteria's grand slam sealed the Padres' fate. But that's not all Renteria did to Jake Peavy and the Padres. He went 3-for-3 against Peavy and played a part in San Francisco's first six runs. He is now 10-for-22 for his career against the San Diego ace.
