San Diego Padres Inside Pitch 2009-05-09

San Diego Padres Inside Pitch 2009-05-09
Saturday is a big night for two Padres pitchers.

While struggling starter Kevin Correia is facing the Astros in Houston, Cha Seung Baek might be making his final rehab start with Class AAA Portland.

There are already rumors that Correia could be headed to the Padres' bullpen, meaning it is no coincidence that Baek's rehab start falls on the same day as Correia's spot in the rotation.

Correia gave up five runs on eight hits in just 3 1/3 innings against Colorado at Petco Park last Monday night. The outing shot Correia's ERA up to 5.92.

Correia has not completed six innings since the first of his five starts and has walked 16 hitters in 24 1/3 innings.

Baek, meanwhile, has been on the disabled list since the start of the season with a forearm strain.

ASTROS 2, PADRES 0: Chad Gaudin was one strike away from getting out of a fifth-inning jam Friday night when Hunter Pence poked a two-run single just past diving first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. The Padres had runners on second and third with one out in each of the first two innings, but were unable to get a run home as they were shut out for the second time in eight games.
