San Diego Padres Inside Pitch 2009-05-13

San Diego Padres Inside Pitch 2009-05-13
There is absolutely no wiggle room for Padres starting pitchers. One mistake and that's it.

Jake Peavy made one big mistake Tuesday at Wrigley Field -- a two-run homer by former Padre Milton Bradley in the sixth -- and that was it.

The Padres had given Peavy a 2-0 lead in the first on Adrian Gonzalez's two-run homer, but they would not score again. And Peavy gave up three runs in six innings -- the last two on Bradley's decisive shot.

During the last 35 innings that Peavy has pitched, the Padres have scored in four of them, six runs total. During one notable drought, the Padres went 20 straight innings without scoring while Peavy was pitching.

The drought has left Peavy winless since April 16, which happens to be the last date that any San Diego starter has won. Padres starters are 0-10 since then.

CUBS 6, PADRES 2: Three hitters into the first inning at Wrigley Field, Adrian Gonzalez drove a Rich Harden pitch the opposite way into the left-field seats for a two-run homer, and that was it for the San Diego offense. The Padres managed just five hits on the night.
