The save/non-save argument surrounding Trevor Hoffman is boiling again.
Hoffman suffered the loss Friday night when he gave up a run in the 10th inning to the Giants in a non-save situation. Friday marked the 11th time this season that Hoffman has appeared in a non-save situation. His record in those games is 1-4 with a 5.73 ERA -- seven runs scored on 12 hits in 11 innings.
In save situations, Hoffman is 0-1 but has converted 22 of 25 opportunities with a 4.22 ERA.
GIANTS 3, PADRES 2 (10 innings): The Padres tied the game Friday on Adrian Gonzalez's opposite-field, eighth-inning homer off Giants left-hander Jack Taschner. But the Giants scored the decisive run in the 10th when pinch-hitter Eugenio Velez doubled home Emmanuel Burriss, who had blooped a single to center with two out. The Padres loaded the bases with three straight singles with one out in the bottom of the 10th, but Kevin Kouzmanoff grounded into a double play to end the game.
