Maddux's ERA at Petco Park fell to 2.62 -- the fourth-lowest home ERA in the National League.
Maddux is 5-2 with four no-decisions in the 11 games he has held the opposition to one or fewer runs. Last night marked the third time the Padres were shut out when Maddux pitched.
Maddux and Moyer were both 1984 draft picks of the Cubs -- Maddux in the second round and Moyer in the sixth. Both reached the majors in the same season -- 1986. Maddux's major league debut came on Sept. 2, 1986, in a game that Moyer started the previous day against Houston's Nolan Ryan.
"It got suspended by darkness and continued the next day," said Maddux. "I lost it in the 17th or 18th inning."
PHILLIES 1, PADRES 0: Pat Burrell's solo homer with one out in the seventh inning Friday broke up a scoreless pitching duel between the Padres' 42-year-old Greg Maddux and the Phillies' 45-year-old Jamie Moyer. The Padres got only four hits and advanced only one runner to third while being shutout for the ninth time this season -- and for the third time by a 1-0 score.
