--SS Khalil Greene had one of his best games of the season Tuesday. In addition to his game-tying, three-run homer -- his second clutch homer in three days -- Greene killed two Cub rallies with his glove. He made a great diving stop to his right of a Derrek Lee grounder in the third inning and a leaping catch of a Reed Johnson liner in the fourth. Greene's 77th career homer tied Cito Gaston for 12th on the Padres' all-time list.
--3B Kevin Kouzmanoff had played every inning of the season's first 39 games before he got a break Tuesday night in Chicago. Kouzmanoff got to rest because the Padres had called up INF Edgar Gonzalez from Class AAA Portland the previous day. --INF Edgar Gonzalez (2-for-4 with a double and an error) played third base and Adrian Gonzalez (1-for-4, runs scored) played first Tuesday, giving the Padres brothers in the same infield for the first time in club history. The last time infielder brothers started in the same game in the major leagues was Sept. 27, 1998, when Cincinnati had an infield of Barry Larkin (shortstop), Stephen Larkin (first), Bret Boone (second) and Aaron Boone (third).
--RHP Mark Prior is flying to Birmingham, Ala., Wednesday with copies of the MRI taken Monday for a consultation with orthopedic surgeon James Andrews.
--1B Tony Clark rejoined the Padres on Tuesday night after attending the funeral of his grandmother in Omaha, Neb.
--RHP Cla Meredith got five consecutive groundball outs in a span of 12 pitches Tuesday night in relief of LHP Shawn Estes. He has not allowed a run while allowing only three hits and one walk over his last nine outings (8 2/3 innings).
