--General manager Kevin Towers denied reports that the Angels have contacted him regarding RHP Jake Peavy. "The only club we've heard from recently is the Chicago Cubs," Towers said.
--Former Padres catcher Terry Kennedy was hired as the manager of San Diego's Class AA affiliate in San Antonio. Kennedy, 52, was the Missions' hitting coach last season. Kennedy, the catcher on San Diego's 1984 National League championship team, was the independent Golden Baseball League Manager of the Year in 2005 while managing the San Diego Surf Dawgs. He previously spent six years managing in the minor league systems of the Dodgers, Cubs, Expos and Cardinals.
