--SS Luis Rodriguez hit his first homer of the season and scored three runs for the Padres. From the No. 8 spot in the order, Rodriguez has been a critical part of the Padres 'offense. He leads the league with three sacrifice flies, has drawn nine walks and has a .457 on-base percentage. In seven starts, Rodriguez has five RBIs and has scored seven runs.
--RHP Heath Bell struck out Ryan Howard and Matt Stairs in the ninth Friday night to pick up his sixth save -- his second in as many nights and his third on the Padres' road trip. The heir to Trevor Hoffman is 6-for-6 in save situations and has allowed one hit over 5 2/3 innings while striking out seven. --LF Chase Headley went 4-for-4 Thursday with three RBIs hitting behind Adrian Gonzalez, including a two-run single in the third after Gonzalez had been walked intentionally with two out and runners on second and third. Said Headley: "Everyone is going to do that (walk Gonzalez), and I can't blame them. For us to be successful, we have to get hits behind him." It was the second four-hit game of Headley's career.
