San Diego Padres Notes, Quotes 2009-04-28
--Padres pitchers had given up 30 runs on 42 hits in the last three games through Monday, and the Padres had two three-game losing streaks in a span of seven games.

--RHP Shawn Hill, who has a history of arm issues beginning with elbow reconstruction surgery in 2004, went on the 15-day disabled list Sunday after having Saturday's start halted after two innings by pain around his elbow.

"I've pitched with worse pain," said the right-hander. "Hopefully, they will find something super small." But Hill admitted the latest problem in his surgically reconstructed elbow just didn't pop up Saturday night during his painful-to-watch, two-inning outing (three runs allowed on five hits in two innings) against the Pirates at Petco Park. "It didn't sneak up on me, it's been bothering me for a while," said Hill. "In my first two starts, it didn't feel great. But I was able to get loose. (Saturday) it caught up with me."

--1B Adrian Gonzalez is riding the second eight-game hitting streak of his season. He is 12-for-31 in his current streak through Sunday, including four homers. On Sunday, his 458-foot shot to right center became the longest homer in the history of Petco Park. Gonzalez reached base in all 18 Padres games this season, with hits in 16 of the past 17. His seven homers ties the all-time Padres record for the first month of the season. And he has driven in at least one run (15 total) in 11 of the last 15 games.

--Brothers Adrian and Edgar Gonzalez both homered Sunday, marking the second time they've done that, the last time being last Sept. 11. Both times, Edgar homered as a pinch-hitter.

--OF Drew Macias, 26, was recalled from Class AAA Portland Sunday to replace injured RHP Shawn Hill on the roaster. Macias was hitting .321 in 53 at-bats for the Beavers with four doubles, one homer and five RBIs. He opened the regular season with the Padres but was optioned to Portland on April 10.

BY THE NUMBERS: $1 -- Amount the Padres charged Seattle as "cash considerations" March 25 when they sold infielder Chris Burke to the Mariners.

$1.25 -- Premium amount the Padres paid the Mariners April 21 when they re-purchased Burke to replace injured SS Everth Cabrera.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We came in hoping for the best with Shawn, that this would be the time and the place. I worry but I'm always optimistic. His elbow has been through a lot." -- Padres manager Bud Black, talking about oft-injured RHP Shawn Hill, who went on the disabled list Sunday with pain in his elbow.
