--Padres manager Bud Black tried a second lineup twist in two days Friday night, moving David Eckstein into the lead-off spot against Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw and putting Brian Giles in No. 2 slot. Eckstein went 0-for-4 and is 0-for-8 in two games as the lead-off hitter this season.
--RHP Walter Silva is expected to start a rehab assignment with Class AAA Portland next week, which might not necessarily be good news for Silva. Usually, the Padres rehab players they want to return to the active roster at Class A Lake Elsinore, which is an hour's drive north of San Diego. Disabled players sent to rehab in Portland are usually assigned to the Beavers after the rehab assignment is completed. --RHP Heath Bell on Wednesday sent a written apology to Rockies closer Huston Street for some disparaging remarks he made to the MLB Network in a televised interview immediately after Bell picked up his eighth save Tuesday night. "I said some dumb things that just didn't come out right," Bell told The San Diego Union-Tribune. "It was my own dumb fault. I'll learn from it." Padres manager Bud Black met with Bell and Rockies manager Clint Hurdle before Wednesday afternoon's game.
