--RHP Josh Geer took a shutout into the eighth inning Tuesday at Petco Park before giving up a solo homer to Rockies C Chris Iannetta. Geer finished the inning and allowed only the one run and five hits over eight innings despite working under the heat of the Padres' six-game losing streak. Said Geer: "There was a lot of pressure. I was ready to fight. That one pitch in the eighth inning kind of killed me and made me mad."
--RF Brian Giles doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning Tuesday for his second game-winning walk-off hit of the season. Giles was 2-for-3 with two walks while hitting out of the leadoff slot. He is 3-for-11 in his last three games with a double, a homer and three RBIs after going 20 consecutive at-bats without a hit. --1B Adrian Gonzalez went 0-for-4 Monday with three strikeouts and failed to reach base for the first time this season. Gonzalez entered the game as one of two major league players to have safely reached base in 25 straight games. Gonzalez was in a 2-for-15 slump with six strikeouts and had 28 strikeouts in 96 at-bats.
