San Diego Padres Notes, Quotes 2008-06-28
--RHP Brett Tomko gave up one run in two innings Friday in his 2008 debut with the Padres. The Padres signed him earlier in the day after he cleared waivers. He had gone 2-7 with a 6.97 ERA in 16 games (10 starts) for Kansas City this year.

--LHP Justin Hampson was optioned to Class AAA Portland to clear a roster spot for newly acquired RHP Brett Tomko. Hampson was 0-1 with a 7.27 ERA in 10 appearances for San Diego.

--LHP Randy Wolf gave up three runs on eight hits and five walks in 3 1/3 innings against Seattle -- his shortest outing of the season. Thirteen of the 23 hitters the Mariners sent to the plate against him reached base. "My stuff was fine," Wolf said. "I didn't have any clue where it was going. Honestly, I was lucky. There is no way to candy-coat it. I (stunk)."

--LF Chase Headley, batting right-handed, rocketed a line drive down the line and over the wall in left for both Padres runs Friday night. It is his first major league homer against a left-handed pitcher and his third in 40 at-bats and 10 games since joining the Padres from Class AAA Portland.

--3B Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled off Seattle LHP Jarrod Washburn (he is hitting .324 against left-handed pitchers) to extend his hitting streak to seven games. He is 11-for-29 with four doubles, a triple, two homers and seven RBIs in that stretch.

--2B Edgar Gonzalez is 2-for-18 over the past five games with six strikeouts.

--SS Khalil Greene's only hit over the past four games and 15 at-bats is Thursday afternoon's solo homer.

BY THE NUMBERS: 3-9 -- Padres' record in interleague games with six to go -- meaning for the 11th time in 12 years, the Padres cannot have a winning record in interleague play.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I was glad I could make the catch. I had made a long run and at the last second I looked down and saw I was going to run into the bullpen bench. So I veered to my right and went over the wall. At that moment I really didn't know what was going to happen because I had my eyes closed. But I hit a lot of things on the way down." -- RF Paul McAnulty, who is not the most graceful outfielder, after flipping over a low rail and going head first into the stands June 20 while making a game-ending catch against the Tigers.
