San Diego Padres Notes, Quotes 2008-08-02
--2B Tadahito Iguchi was activated Friday night to take SS Khalil Greene's spot on the roster. Iguchi has been out since June 6 with a separated shoulder (suffered when he tripped while trying to dodge a line drive hit by teammate Kevin Kouzmanoff). Iguchi had just started a rehab assignment when the Padres cut it short.

--The same day that SS Khalil Greene broke his hand smashing it into a storage cabinet behind the Padres' dugout, the Padres shortstop at Class AAA Portland also suffered a broken bone in his hand. Craig Stansberry broke the hook of the hamate bone on his left hand.

--RHP Josh Banks allowed two runs (one earned) Friday night against the Giants. In two starts against San Francisco, Banks' ERA against the Giants is 0.63.

--C Nick Hundley allowed the Giants' second run to score Friday night on a passed ball when he was crossed up by RHP Josh Banks. But he also threw out two runners, making him 4-for-11 against base-stealers this season.

--1B Adrian Gonzalez hit his fourth homer in a seven-game span Friday night.

BY THE NUMBERS: 14 -- Major league seasons in which RHP Trevor Hoffman has had at least 20 saves, breaking the mark he shared with Lee Smith.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "All closers owe him a 'thank you' for raising the awareness of what we do." -- All-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman, who lit up a cigar upon learning of the death of Jerome Holtzman, the famed Chicago baseball writer, and fellow cigar smoker, who penned the save rule.
