--RHP Mike Adams has allowed one run over his last 17 appearances (19 1/3 innings) allowing 13 hits and four walks against 24 strikeouts to lower his ERA to 1.83. Adams has 46 strikeouts since his promotion from Class AAA Portland on May 22, the second-highest total in the major leagues since that date to Tampa Bay's Grant Balfour (48).
--Adams apparently has taken over the seventh-inning setup job from RHP Cla Meredith, who has allowed at least one hit in 13 of his last 14 appearances (four runs allowed on 17 hits over 12 innings). --CF Jody Gerut is hitting .341 (15-for-44) in 14 games since July 18.
--2B Edgar Gonzalez is only 2-for-34 with one run scored and no RBI since July 23.
--RHP Jake Peavy took the loss Saturday night, although he allowed only one run on five hits over seven innings. The Padres were shutout for the third time by the Giants this season. Peavy is 3-2 in his last six starts although he has a 1.98 ERA. The Padres have scored a total of 17 runs in those games.
