San Diego Padres Notes, Quotes 2008-09-19
--The 1-0 loss suffered by the Padres in Colorado on Wednesday was their major league-leading fifth of the season. They have scored three runs or fewer 83 times this season (12-71) and two or fewer a staggering 59 times (7-52).

--RHP Jake Peavy, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, enters Friday's start in Washington with a 9-11 record with two starts remaining -- meaning he needs to win both his remaining starts to finish .500. Only twice this season has Peavy won back-to-back starts.

--RHP Trevor Hoffman has been stuck on 28 saves since Sept. 4, meaning he needs two saves in the final nine games to extend his major league record for 30-save seasons to 13. Aside from 2003, when he missed the bulk of the season following shoulder surgery, Hoffman hasn't fallen short of 30 saves since 1994 (his first full season with the Padres).

--RHP Mike Adams has allowed only two runs and four hits over his last 14 innings. He has averaged a strikeout an inning during the run.

--LF Chase Headley has struck out at least once in 15 straight starts (23 total in 58 at-bats) and has 90 strikeouts in 292 at-bats.

BY THE NUMBERS: 1 -- OF Drew Macias homered for his first major league hit Sept. 11, the first Padre to do that since Jason Bay on May 23, 2003.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We considered it. But with Brian, there's always the possibility of him hitting a line drive." -- Padres manager Bud Black, on why he didn't start the runners Wednesday night with Padres on first and second with one out and a full count on Brian Giles, who grounded into a double play.
