--RHP Luis Perdomo was claimed off waivers from San Francisco Friday. Perdomo was a Rule 5 pick by the Giants last December and joins SS Everth Cabrera as one of two Rule 5 picks on the Padres. Perdomo, 24, has a lifetime minor league record of 19-15 with a 2.93 ERA in seven seasons in the Cleveland and St. Louis systems.

--OF Drew Macias was optioned to Class AAA Portland to make room on the roster for RHP Luis Perdomo. Macias, originally scheduled to open the season in Portland, was recalled hours before Monday's season opener when OF Cliff Floyd was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

--RF Brian Giles went 2-for-4 Friday night. It was the 500th multi-hit game of his career, tying him for 21st among active players.

--RHP Shawn Hill's start Friday night against the Giants was his first since last June 24. Signed by the Padres after being released by the Nationals during spring training, Hill's career has been sidelined three times by surgery, including elbow reconstruction surgery in 2005. He allowed two runs on seven hits over five-plus innings Friday night.

MEDICAL WATCH:

RHP Mark Prior (right shoulder surgeries in April 2007 and June 2008) was progressing as the Padres broke camp. "If he's healthy, Mark's my ace in the hole," Padres general manager Kevin Towers said. If Prior continues to advance, he could join the Padres in May.

OF Cliff Floyd (right shoulder strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 5.

RHP Cha Seung Baek (strained right forearm) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 30.

RHP Mike Adams (right shoulder surgery in October 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list April 2, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 5. He had not resumed throwing from the mound as of March 27.

RHP Mark Worrell (Tommy John elbow surgery in March 2009) went on the 15-day disabled list April 2, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 5. He is out for the season.
