--LF Chase Headley returned to the Padres lineup Friday night after missing three games with a sore shoulder. He suffered the injury in a collision with the left field wall at Dodger Stadium last Sunday. He was 0-for-4, although he was robbed of at least a two-run triple in the first by a great catch by Astros CF Michael Bourn on the center field banking at Minute Maid Park.
--C Nick Hundley went 2-for-3 Friday night and threw out his first would-be base stealer of the season. Runners had been successful on their first 23 attempts of the season against Hundley. --2B David Eckstein singled leading off the game Friday night. It was his first hit as the Padres leadoff hitter this season. He is 1-for-20 in the No. 1 slot with one walk in five games.
--RHP Chris Young gave up three runs on five hits over six innings Thursday. He entered the game with a 0.00 ERA in day games (two starts) and a 1.38 ERA in home games at Petco Park. Those numbers climbed to 1.35 for day games and 2.37 for day games.
MEDICAL WATCH:
LF Chase Headley (sore left shoulder) did not start May 5-7, but he appeared as a pinch hitter May 6-7 and returned to the lineup on May 8.
RHP Cha Seung Baek (strained right forearm) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 30. He threw a bullpen session April 21 and will throw another April 24. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Lake Elsinore on April 28.
RHP Shawn Hill (right elbow inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list April 25.
RHP Walter Silva (right forearm strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 14. Manager Bud Black said he likely would be out longer than the minimum time.
OF Cliff Floyd (inflamed right knee) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 5 with a right shoulder strain. He had recovered from the shoulder injury when the knee problem began.
INF Everth Cabrera (broken hamate bone in left hand) went on the 60-day disabled list April 20. He had surgery April 21, and he's expected to be out six to eight weeks before beginning an extended rehab assignment.
RHP Mike Adams (right shoulder surgery in October 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list April 2, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 5.
RHP Mark Worrell (Tommy John elbow surgery in March 2009) went on the 15-day disabled list April 2, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 5. He is out for the season.
RHP Mark Prior (right shoulder surgeries in April 2007 and June 2008) was progressing as the Padres broke camp. He suffered a setback in extended spring training in late April, delaying his rehab.
