"People are starting to see more of a theme, a branding, and not just the team name," TinCaps General Manager Mike Nutter said.
The TinCaps, formerly known as the Wizards, have been the Class Low-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's San Diego Padres since 1999.
Four different uniforms will constitute the TinCaps wardrobe for the 2009 season. Uniforms for home games and away games, an alternate jersey for Sunday games and special occasions, and a batting practice jersey will make up the players' on-field wardrobe.
The TinCaps' color scheme is forest green, apple red, king gray and some black and white trim.
Prominent uniform features include pinstripes on the home outfit, the words "Fort Wayne" written in a pipe-like text across the chest of the road uniform, an apple-red jersey for the alternate, and forest-green mesh for the batting practice jerseys.
"We think we've got a pretty good color scheme," Nutter said. "We went back-and-forth for a long time, developed this stuff and are very happy with where the process went."
A TinCaps merchandise store, located near Macy's in Glenbrook Square, will open Dec. 12 for the holiday shopping season.
The organization received a lot of negative feedback about the name TinCaps and in hindsight, Nutter said perhaps revealing the uniforms at the same time as the team's new name would've undercut some of that.
But he added recently the response has turned to the positive.
"We just need people to continue to see it and get it out there so it becomes more common and everything isn't a surprise every time," Nutter said.
Nutter also revealed the Parkview Field logo and said field manager Doug Dascenzo will return for his third season at the helm.
The Padres informed Dascenzo, hitting coach Tom Tornincasa and pitching coach Tom Bradley a few weeks ago that all would be back for another year as the field staff.
"If I could've chosen a place to come back to next year, it would be Fort Wayne," said Dascenzo, who was on hand for the uniform reveal.
"It's a very, very pleasant place to work."
Bradley also enters his third season, and Tornincasa worked with the duo last season.
He also spent a four-year stint as hitting coach for Fort Wayne in 2001-04.
"With the season that we've undergone with so much change off the field and so much other stuff, I was extremely hopeful that Doug came back," Nutter said. "I expressed that to the Padres."
